Annual Scholarship Award Ceremonies

Did you know?

  • In recognition of the profound and permanent loss suffered by the children and spouses of CHP Officers who have given their lives in the Line of Duty, the members of the California Highway Patrol 11-99 Foundation's Board of Directors provide significant annual post-secondary level educational Scholarship support to our Fallen Heroes' surviving family members.  During the 2006-07 and 2007-08 academic years, 15 Line of Duty Scholarships were awarded each year.  For the current 2008-09 academic year, 17 Line of Duty Scholarships were awarded. Scholarships, totaling $15,000 and $17,500 per student per year, have been warded to our Fallen Heroes' sons and daughters who are attending four-year institutions, from California State Universities, to out-of-state private universities, including Yale University.
  • A quarter century ago, the California Highway Patrol 11-99 Foundation was created to provide Benefits support to CHP families in times of crisis.  Since 1981, the members of the CHP 11-99 Foundation's Board of Directors have issued nearly $3.9 million dollars in Benefits.  The majority of these funds have been provided to directly support the children and spouses of the 55 Fallen Hero CHP Officers who have died in the Line of Duty over the course of the 11-99 Foundation's history.  Seven (7) of these Officers lost their lives within a tragic, 12-month period.  This many Officers laying down their lives in the Line of Duty, in separate incidents, within a single 12-month period, is unprecedented in the 75-plus-year history of the California Highway Patrol.
  • Every academic year, at least 1,000 children of California Highway Patrol employees reach the traditional college age of 18.  Each year, the sons, daughters and spouses of over 10,000 current, and thousands of retired, CHP employees are eligible to apply for California Highway Patrol 11-99 Foundation Scholarships to assist them as they pursue post-secondary level studies.  Since 1984, the members of the 11-99 Foundation's Board of Directors have awarded nearly $13 million in Scholarships to assist thousands and thousands of eligible students.

Once again this year, the CHP 11-99 Foundation will be hosting a series of Scholarship Award Ceremonies up and down the state, to honor the young men and women who were selected to receive post-secondary educational Scholarships for the 2010-11 academic year.

To date, nearly $14 million in Scholarhips has been awarded to assist thousands of CHP family members, as they strive to achieve their higher educational dreams. Our Scholarship Program would not be possible without the support that our many generous donors and friends provide each year.  We encourage you to review this year's Scholarship Award Ceremonies calendar by clicking here.  We hope you can join us to celebrate one of our more inspiring and enduring traditions.  There are not many better experiences than seeing, first hand, how the CHP 11-99 Foundation improves the lives of the deserving and amazing young men and women who receive Scholarships each year.
