Did you know?

  • For the upcoming 2008-09 academic year alone, the members of the California Highway Patrol 11-99 Foundation's Board of Directors awarded over $2 million in Scholarships to support the post-secondary level studies of over 900 college, university and trade-technical students.  To date, nearly $13 million in Scholarships has been awarded to assist thousands and thousands of worthy students as they have pursued and attained their higher educational dreams.
  • The California Highway Patrol 11-99 Foundation is an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) nonprofit, charitable organization.  The CHP 11-99 Foundation has been incorporated and operated under California's Nonprofit Corporations law since 1981.  Donations made to support CHP 11-99 Foundation programs are fully tax deductible to the extent allowed by law.  The CHP 11-99 Foundation's Federal Tax Identification Number is 95-6530738.
  • Every year, the lives of hundreds of thousands of Californians are touched and enhanced by California Highway Patrol 11-99 Foundation programs.  For the upcoming 2008-09 calendar year alone, the members of the CHP 11-99 Foundation's Board of Directors have awarded over $2 million in Scholarships and will have provided another half million dollars in Benefits to directly assist well over 1,000 CHP families.  Since the 11-99 Foundation first began providing Benefits support in 1981 and Scholarship support in 1984, $16.6 million has been provided to assist worthy CHP family members.

Every time a California Highway Patrol Officer takes to the road or responds to a call, his or her very life is placed at risk, serving the rest of California's citizens.  When eligible CHP employees face unexpected crises or distress, the CHP 11-99 Foundation is available to provide financial assistance.

For one family, assistance came in the way of specially designed equipment for their home so their child, paralyzed in an accident, could make his way around the house and to the world outside.  For another, assistance from the CHP 11-99 Foundation helped them begin rebuilding their home and their lives--after a fire nearly destroyed everything.  The CHP 11-99 Foundation Broderick Crawford Benefits Program also provides immediate and substantial financial assistance to surviving family members when an On-duty or Off-duty death occurs.

The California Highway Patrol 11-99 Foundation was founded by visionary business leader Bob Weinberg.  In 1981, Bob became aware of a CHP family facing a grave financial crisis brought on by the prolonged illness of a child.  This heroic family was faced with mounting bills not covered by insurance or other benefits programs.  When Bob discovered that there was no other organized community support for CHP families in times of crisis, he founded the California Highway Patrol 11-99 Foundation to address this need and fill the void.

Today, thousands of caring and concerned people from all walks of life are donors to and supporters of the CHP 11-99 Foundation's programs.  The donations made to the Foundation are directly applied to providing financial assistance to CHP families in need.

"If Necessary, Lay Down My Life..."

Most recently, the California Highway Patrol has lost eleven (11) Officers in the Line of Duty:

Officer David Romero
Officer Andrew Stevens
Officer Erick Manny
Lieutenant Michael Walker
Officer Earl Scott
Officer John Bailey
Officer Brent Clearman
Officer Robert Dickey
Officer Scott Russell
Officer John Miller
Officer Joseph Sanders

Each of these Fallen Heroes made the ultimate sacrifice, laying down his life, while on duty protecting all of us.  Through the CHP 11-99 Foundation's Broderick Crawford Benefits Program, the members of the 11-99 Foundation's Board of Directors provided immediate and substantial financial assistance to the surviving family members of each of these Fallen Heroes.

A Fallen Hero and One of the Strongest Women We Know

On February 25, 2006, while conducting a traffic stop on I-15, California Highway Patrol motorcycle Officer Gregory "John" Bailey was struck and killed by an alleged DUI driver.  Officer Bailey was a genuine American Hero, who left behind the love of his life, his amazing wife Teresa, and four young children, Hannah (age 10), Megan (age 8), Jared (age 6) and Dylan (age 5).
