| Fallen Hero California Highway Patrol Officers 1981-2007 |
Since the California Highway Patrol 11-99 Foundation was created, 58 California Highway Patrol Officers have lost their lives while on duty. During one of the Department's most devastating 12-month periods in its 80-plus-year history, the CHP lost seven (7) Officers in the Line of Duty, between September, 2005 and August, 2006. This many Officers laying down their lives in the Line of Duty, in separate incidents, within a single 12-month period, is unprecedented in the 80-plus-year history of the California Highway Patrol. On October 29, 2009 and May 7, 2010, the two latest tragedies occurred, when Officer Jarod Martinez and Officer Daniel Benavides lost their lives while on patrol, protecting all of us.
Through the CHP 11-99 Foundation's Benefits Program, the members of the 11-99 Foundation's Board of Directors provide immediate and substantial financial assistance to surviving family members when a CHP Officer lays down his or her life in the Line of Duty.
